Kaleidoscope Honours The History Project

BECTU's History Project was honoured with a Lifetime Contribution to Broadcasting award at a ceremony at BAFTA on 23 October.

The award, presented by industry organisation, Kaleidoscope, is designed to honour an individual, in any capacity e.g. writer, producer, artiste, administrator, or an organisation, operating in broadcasting for 20 years or more. 

The certificate awarded to the History Project in October 2010.

The History Project, which is sponsored by BECTU, was selected in celebration of the 600 industry interviews which now make up the archive. The 600th interview was with well-known film producer, now Lord, David Puttnam.

The award itself, designed and made by Allister Malcolm at Broadfield House Glass Museum was accepted on behalf of the BECTU History Project by the chair, Roy Lockett, previously the union's deputy general secretary . The founder of the project, Roy Fowler, was also honoured.

The archive captures the industry experiences of staff and freelances working in the sectors organised by BECTU and is a resource for historians, researchers and students. Find out more about the archive and how to access it.  

The History Project was established by members of one of BECTU's founder unions, the ACTT.
