Born 1913, Stoke Newington, London. Left school at age 13, working for a model maker. 1931, was offered a job at Paramount News; worked first in the Shipping Department, then moved into the cutting room, and then after 2 years started editing news stories. Left Paramount in 1948 to join Pathé News, where he worked until 1970, moving to Movietone at Denham where he worked until 1978.
Norman gives annual talks to old people’s clubs about the making of a newsreel and this interview in the main is a reading of his own paper. However at the end of this paper we were able to ask some technical questions and there is some useful information. Also during the recording, he plays the opening title music of the newsreels that he had worked with.
