Biographical

Married to actor Laura Driver.  Father of actor Christopher Mitchell. Well known character actor of stage, screen, radio and television. Norman was credited with nearly 200 film appearances, 500 radio broadcasts and an estimated 2,000 television appearances including Doctor Who in 1965  and “It Ain’t Half Hot Mum” in 1977

Born 27 Aug 1918 Sheffield Yorkshire. Father Miner. Did drama at Grammar school. Sang in choir. Hitchhiked to London in 1937. Did scene shifting.  ASM in local repertory company in Sheffield. Small parts in WW2. Went into Army Medical corp. Did standup in army. Injured in War. Othello in Belfast. Stratford on Avon for 3 years. Equity joined in 1945.Moved to Merton Park in Children's Film Foundation 1950.  Films in Denham & Elstree. Auditioned for Kid for Two Farthings by Carol Reed. Oliver. Part in Stanley Kubrick film Barry Lyndon.   Freelance broadcaster. TV & Radio.
